The Baobab Currency of Madagascar

Google can turn up some interesting results when you cast the net wide while conducting online research. In this particular instance, it started with an inquiry on the famous Baobab trees of Madagascar which returned a treasure trove of images.

But among the shots of these distinct trees in habitat, there was an image of a overseas currency bearing the likeness of the famous “Bottle Tree”.  As a friend once told me, “Foreign currencies are gorgeous” and these Malagasy bank notes, from the days of the Franc to the present day Ariary, are no exception.

  1. I kept a bunch of Malagasy currency from my travels there for this very reason! The flora and fauna depicted is just awesome!
